How do we enable highly personalised recommendations for our students similar to Amazon’s ‘people like you bought this…..‘?
We basically use an approach called machine learning and lots of data to train it so that it knows what to recommend to people based on things like:
- Who they are?
- What they are studying?
- What people similar to them also searched?
Our students can then be given a much more personalised experience using our apps like Genie and Scout or integrated with other digital services like our Learning Management System. A more personalised experience might look like the following:
When developing experiences like these it is very important that we only utilise data to train the models that does not contain sensitive information and is de-identified. This way we can utilise data that represents groups of people similar to you to personalise your experience but not identify any individual in particular.
Finally, the approaches we take to provide personalised recommendations through our apps such as Genie can also be used across a range of other communication channels, providing a consistently great experience!
